BSkyB’s new UK headquarters in West London, Harlequin 1 was designed with considerable environmental focus; from the building architecture to the office interiors, every avenue was explored to reduce, reuse and recycle where possible.
The building achieved a Breeam "excellent" rating and joins an elite group of
UK buildings – less than 2% – that have won an A-rated energy performance
certificate.
This is not surprising when one considers that the building is able to provide
its own energy for heating and lighting through use of its very own 100kw wind turbine. A 45-000 litre harvesting water tank collects rain water for recycling throughout the building and on top of that the building also captures other natural resources such as light and external air for cooling and ventilation.
Harlequin 1 has a calculated CO2 emissions rate of 26.3 Kg CO2/m2 per annum – the lowest achieved for a broadcasting centre in Europe, says BSkyB.
Bisley’s storage products have been chosen by BSkyB not just because they are aesthetically and functionally compliant but also because of their low carbon footprint as well as their certification to meet indoor air quality standards (TUV Rheinland LGA Products GmbH).
As BSkyBs Matthew Wallace says: "We selected the Bisley storage range after going out to the market place with a detailed tender process. The final choice was made on a combination of product quality, variety, durability, technical performance, delivery lead time, aesthetics and price. Combined with Bisleys attention to detail and service level, the final decision was clear cut.
The installation and post installation support have been first class. We look forward to continuing to partner with Bisley in the future."
